It means little if (because) the behavior of the regime in such matters has not/does not change; which I suspect is/will be the case; in which, minus fundamental change in such matters, the north is doing its usual pretense at change, to flatter its opponents into lowering their guard. If Trump’s staff is fooled by this diplomatic theatrics, I’ll be surprised. The problem with North Korea is not mere pre-summit diplomatic concessions but the nature, long term and ongoing behavior of the regime.
I do not recall such gestures before - although I could easily be mistaken.
It’s like the first bud of spring - one cannot determine the harvest from it, but if no sprigs erupt from the earth, one can be assured of no harvest at all.
My company motto is “Trust, but verify.” (Yep - got it from Reagan, who got it from an old Russian proverb.) I think the motto applies in spades in this situation.
“The problem with North Korea is not mere pre-summit diplomatic concessions but the nature, long term and ongoing behavior of the regime.”
Agreed.
Although this is a good start, there remains a lot of amends that NK need to make with the US and other countries in the world.
