Every election we have is "The Most Important One of Our Lifetime" "Get Out and Vote, or SUFFER the CONSEQUENCES", etc. Insert your own hyperbole.
However, 2016 might have been just that. I'm not sure that America would have recovered from a Clinton presidency. We'll not know for another generation or so, if at all. Or, it's possible that Pres Trump just slowed the downward slide for a few years.
But I think that 2016 will be looked at by historians as a major shift in US politics, and what we're seeing now is the death throes of the establishment that came to power after Reagan.
