Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday morning that President Donald Trump should not engage directly in the details of negotiation with North Korea.
“First of all, don’t try to negotiate the details with Kim Jong-un,” Rice told Fox & Friends. “Leave that for people who understand all the nuances of the situation.”
Rice noted that she was the last American to negotiate with the North Korean regime, when she was dealing with Kim Jong-un’s father, Kim Jong-il.
“You have to give the [Trump] administration a lot of credit,” she said, for pressuring China to rein in the Kim regime and for using the threat of military force to isolate North Korea.
However, she said, the president should leave the nuts-and-bolts of diplomacy to others, even though he would be meeting directly with Kim Jong-un at a summit in the coming weeks. And she warned that the Kim regime was still a murderous one with a track record of breaking its promises.
Rice said she supported the Trump administration’s move toward pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.
“I actually think if we pull out now, it is not going to be the disaster everybody is talking about,” she said. “I would not have signed this deal. I don’t think it was a very good deal. I think we were in a hurry to get a deal and we left a lot on the table. … If we get out of this deal, it is going to be just fine.”
Asked whether she wanted to leave the Iran deal, Rice said: “I would probably have stayed in for alliance management purposes but … if the president decides to pull out of the deal I have no argument with that.”

For diplomats, the diplomacy is the thing. Setting up and having talks is success. Results? Not so much.
So, someone like Condi actually looks back on her talks with North Korea as successfull.
I’m guessing Trump gave Tillerson orders to deal with Kim, got tired of his prattling and just fired him and did it himself. That’s what real leaders have to do sometimes.

A few days ago Trump said, in a comment to the press, that he gets a big kick out of the failed experts giving him advice on how to handle NK.

Good advice, with a caveat: How many of these so-called experts are Obammunist holdovers, with an agenda that does NOT allow for successes by President Trump?
I like Condi but she’s full of it on this one....the experts got us 50 years of north Korea and that fabulouse Iran deal. The only expert right now is Donald J. Trump!!!
I can think of only one: Justice Alito.

I don’t really have an issue with what Condi said, but I do with the assumption that Trump is a novice at negotiation. I seriously doubt he talks much about faucet washers and carpet tacks when he’s building a hotel. This ain’t his first rodeo.
Seems to me I remember when Reagan had the big summit with Gorbachev at Reykjavik and the big issue was The Star Wars Defense System. Reagan told Gorbachev that Star Wars would not be taken off the table and if the Russians pushed him on it he was leaving, deal or no deal. Gorbachev thought it was a bluff and called Reagan on it and Reagan pulled out ASAP and left Gorbachev with no new deal on Nukes. Same thing here, Trump has called it pretty well without the stripped pants boys and girls. Why wasn’t Condi able to get anything done? Honey stay in retirement.
I like to judge by results, therefore I’ve concluded that we have no experts at international negotiation.
Condi, your input is not required.
Condi is an admitted Obama girl. She no longer has any credibility and fortunately, she no longer has any power.
Condi can stay at the bench, she doesn’t belong in this game.
The tail-between-your-legs" alliance management of the Bush administration that let Europe pay almost nothing into NATO. That's until Trump - against the "advice" and in spite of the outraged opposition of Rice's Washington Swamp crowd - called them out and threaten them into pay their way.

When it comes to expert negotiators, Condi, PDJT is the sine qua non of the Art of the Deal.
