Alder Hey Hospital has expressed its "heartfelt sympathy" to Alfie Evans's devastated parents after the toddler died in the early hours of today.
The Liverpool-based hospital, where little Alfie's life support was turned off on Monday night, posted a statement on its website this morning.
It said: "We wish to express our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Alfie's family at this extremely distressing time. All of us feel deeply for Alfie, Kate, Tom and his whole family and our thoughts are with them.
"This has been a devastating journey for them and we would ask that their privacy and the privacy of staff at Alder Hey is respected."
The 23-month-old, who was being treated at Alder Hey, died at 2.30am, five days after his life support was withdrawn.
Alfie's mum Kate James posted this heartbreaking message on Facebook today
In an emotional post on Facebook, his dad Tom Evans and mum Kate James announced: "Our baby boy grew his wings tonight at 2:30 am. We are heart broken. Thankyou everyone for all your support."
In a separate post, Tom, 21, wrote: "My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings at 02:30... absolutely heartbroken. I LOVE YOU MY GUY."
The couple, both from Liverpool, had fought to take Alfie to a foreign hospital for treatment, but lost a final court appeal on Wednesday.
Doctors had removed the little boy's life support on Monday following a High Court judge's ruling, however he continued to live.
The toddler left medics "gobsmacked" by breathing for himself, according to his dad, who said he was "comfortable" off the ventilator.

The hospital cannot be sued if the child has not reached the age of two. Alfie would have turned two on May 8th.
This is absolutely appalling! Do these inhuman monsters have ANY self-awareness at all? Kill their precious baby and then send a note of sympathy? The British are at rock bottom and it is a place they have earned for themselves.
The Alfie Evans killing is an exanple of the elite’s treatment of children and of how the elite regard children that has actually been publicized.
The use of children by the elites in their long running pedophilia rituals has recently barely been peeking out with the wikileaks and other newly exposed sources. The media are quick to “debunk” any mention of it before general acceptance of its existence has a chance to take root.

The highers up in the New York police said they found material that would be revolting to anyone who had children, and that very high up people in the US government were involved.

Mike Pence also got into the matter of Charlie Gard.
Silence on Alfie’s behalf speaks something to me and its not good.
What also causes irritation is President Trump’s decision to visit the UK in July announced as Alfie was being put to death.
Post about “Monster Assad” over some half-baked story about a “chemical attack” on Twitter.
The killing of Charlie Gard last year and Alfie Evans this year suggests to me “Monster May” is in charge in the UK and Donald Trump shouldn’t dignify her with his company.

I will never be able to look at this child Louis without thinking of Alfie and how different he was treated by these people.
A dictators’ first move is ALWAYS to disarm the citizenry.
Slam me as a keyboard tough guy if you will, but I don’t think I would react non-violently to people preventing me from getting the help my child needs when it is being offered by so many others...this was MURDER and many people should pay the price.

The fussing about the British royal family is disgusting. Not a word about Alfie Evans from the Queen, Prince Phillip, or their children and grandchildren. The birth of this Louis Alfred Charles is celebrated, while the son of the proles from Liverpool is allowed to die despite the offer of an Italian hospital to try to save him. The symbol of a monarch as a unifying factor for a nation can be understood, but Britain has effectively abolished its ethnic and religious bounds of unity for the new ideologies of diversity and secularism. The Windsor dynasty only has value in a realm that consists of the historic four nationalities of the UK and where the Christian religion is recognized as an underpinning of state and society.
