Another reason holding PR back is over-reliance on digital currency and electronic systems in general. If people had cash and precious metals, we would have seen more money velocity which means more economic activity for reconstruction.

Yes, I agree, with the exception that Puerto Ricans residing in the US who renounce Puerto Rico may retain US citizenship.

The downside: An independent Puerto Rico may ally itself with enemies of the US. We don’t need an Iranian, Red Chinese or NORK naval base that close, for example.
