Our old house had 10.5 foot ceilings. When we bought another house with 8 foot ceilings, I wasn’t happy at all. The solution was conversion to cathedral ceiling in the old parts of the house, and 12 feet in the new parts. Our furniture and art just aren’t proportioned to fit in a little shoe box.

My home probably had the same thing-—it was a large center entrance Colonial but the low ceilings were much kinder to the heating costs, although we did have 3 zone heating.
Where I am now, with the high ceilings,is a condo built 14 years ago——my retirement home.
Your home sounds lovely with all of the modifications that you gave to it.
