The Broward Sheriff's Office Deputies Association said a symbolic vote among its members, initiated last week, indicated 534 of 628 officers in the union voted they had no confidence in the sheriff The association, a chapter of the International Union of Police Associations, cited the national criticism surrounding Israel and his office following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14. Israel, in response to the announcement of a vote, said union boss Jeff Bell was trying "to use the Parkland tragedy as a bargaining tactic to extort a 6.5 percent raise" from the sheriff's office, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel discredited himself with his handling of the Parkland shooting, where he tried to vilify gun owners as a group while heaping credit on himself. Now he faces a no confidence vote from his own deputies. Bell told the newspaper that "amazing leadership starts from the top, and there is no amazing leadership here," adding that members of the union "have displayed great courage to come out and vote under threat of retaliation and reprisal from the sheriff. Continue Reading Below The sheriff has stood by his leadership of the policing agency and its response to the school shooting, which left 17 people dead. Bell said the association's next step is to present the vote to Florida Gov. Rick Scott who rejected calls from some state legislators to suspend Israel after the shooting and to ask him to "please make change and replace the sheriff with somebody who is capable of amazing leadership."

I would ‘no confidence’ in any officer associated with BCSO. Don’t forget, it was the unionized rank and file who cowered while students were being murdered.
It was also the rank and file who went all gestapo on the student who lawfully exercised his RKBA.
Ping.
You were right, by the way, when you said that those who interviewed the kid were not the average officer.
The deputies have no faith in Israel. Fair enough, but these are some of the same guys who showed their own cowardice. Israel should be removed, but so should every deputy who came to the scene and did nothing. I lived in Broward >50 years. Believe me, BSO is infested with lazy pigs from the top down.
The PROMISE Program should be a name known by all in the USA. Instead, most people have never even heard of it.
Notice that the police union used the word, “amazing.” You know whose favorite word that is. The President likes to use that word.
They said “amazing” three times. Said just a little out of context, that’s the way the President uses it. It’s almost like a trademark.
He is from New York....
“You were right, by the way, when you said that those who interviewed the kid were not the average officer.”
The kid said he was intimidated by a school resource officer and 2 deputies. Where did you read they were not average officers?
From the article above this thread.
Do you have a link? My page shows a thread about Dewine vs Taylor below this thread, and one on Diamond and Silk above it.
“Most police do what they’re trained to do.”
So either they were trained to bully and intimidate an innocent person like this student, or they are rogue cops. The rank and file have a moral obligation to address this case.
