Lets face it: Anyone who could write this article is functionally crazy. What are the odds such a person, dealing in purest delusion is ever going to see his fault? Zero odds. No, this will end very badly because utterly delusional pepole are convinced of their moral superiority. The wrong the author imputed to others he and his are entirely guilty of.

This would be a serious assault on the rule of law in the United State

No it would not. It would be a return to the rule of law. "Star Chamber" courts that operate outside Congressional oversight, like the "Special Councils" are a fundamental assault on the rule of law and our system of checks and balances. A "special council" operates out any level of Congressional over site and control. The law should be re-witted to requires a limited time frame for these out of control Prosecutions. It should monthly reporting from the Council to the Congress who should have the authority to revoke the Special Councils appointment once they demonstrate they have exceed their mandate or exhausted any reasonable possibility of fulfilling their function.

By any rational examination of the facts, as opposed to bigoted political hyper partisanship of the NY Times Editors, Muller "investigation" is a farce that was based on a fraud and politically tainted almost the day it started.

This would be a serious assault on the rule of law in the United States. The ability of the Department of Justice to enforce the laws would be in grave doubt.

It already has, and it already is.

The blindness towards Democrats and the persecution of Trump associates should prove this.

By now, Mr. Mueller has presumably amassed a great deal of evidence, some of which is highly classified, that may point toward serious crimes.

If there was any evidence at all of a real crime, that would already have leaked. Mueller has presumably failed completely and is continuing to dig in the hope of creating a process crime to hold up as his justification for this circus. It's no wonder democrats have moved on to "Stormy" and for all I know "Melania's Hat" as their latest causes for outrage.

“Russia investigation as it closes in on him”

I don’t know why NYT doesn’t just close up shop in our world and move to Bizarro World full time. They’d be much happier and make more money there ...

If Mueller fails to find anything the Democratic Party should reimburse the federal government out of their campaign coffer.

Someone is pushing this “what if Trump fires Mueller” narrative. Would not surprise me if it was the corrupt FBI via an outfit like Fusion GPS.

If Trump or Putin paid these Leftists, they couldn’t do a better job of keeping their loyal loons busy than crying wolf over this pathetic “firing Mueller” meme. It’s an issue completely under Trump’s control. Mueller has nothing. Rosenstein has stated publicly that Trump is not even a target of the investigation. More details about the origins of the anti-Trump conspiracy surface every day; inexorably the full corruption of Hillary Clinton’s dirty tricks squads will be made visible to all.

These reporters are simply desperate and it shows. Here’s an equivalent scenario to their idiocy:

Mueller has interviewed a lot of people.
Therefore, he may have proof that John N. Tye and Mark S. Zaid are serial killing child molester cannibals. Or not, but PRESUMABLY he does, because fantasy and presumption of guilt are the new legal standards.
Were they to be charged and even prosecuted for crimes we have zero evidence that they committed, Hillary might pardon them after becoming President, if Trump resigns and Mike Pence picks her as his VP then resigns too. Let’s organize mass riots just in case.

“but it’s not hard to imagine: President Trump, growing tired of the Russia investigation as it closes in on him”

On what basis can anyone assume Mueller “closes in on him”?? NONE.

“fires Robert S. Mueller III and moves to dismantle the Office of Special Counsel. This would be a serious assault on the rule of law in the United States. The ability of the Department of Justice to enforce the laws would be in grave doubt. “

Laughable. The DOJ is not supposed to be independent OR stand in judgement of the Presidency. It is not an assault upon the rule of law because at any time a President strays out of ethical bounds, Congress can remove him from office as quickly as needed.

It’s a far better system than setting up the DOJ a as 4th branch of government, independent of Congress and the Executive branch.

Frankly I wish Trump would fire Mueller.

I want to see liberal heads explode and laugh as they jump the shark like they did after the election. That sort of hyperventilating could not possibly be good for democrat voter turnout for the mid terms.

And trump can do it legally,,, unless Mueller wants to show some evidence...

Why doesn’t Congress grab a NYT reporter and ask them where they got the info from. Oh right, the protected darlings of the press will refuse to answer. Put them in jail, lock the door and wait until they beg to answer.

This would be a serious assault on the rule of law in the United States.

Bullsh!t. The "rule of law" gives Trump the power to do exactly this.

They could become lawful whistle-blowers.

Yes, they could. But then, they would have to show they had standing to pursue the suit, and the defendants (Trump team) would have the immediate right to enter into discovery and rake them over the coals in depositions and requests for information in order to immediately find out if they really have anything or not. And, the Mueller fishing expedition would be over.

So FIRE Mueller!
