The ceremony to be held at Sultanahmet Square in İstanbul today (April 24) to commemorate the ones who lost their lives in the Armenian Genocide of April 24, 1915 was cancelled.
The commemoration ceremony would be held by Human Rights Association (İHD) İstanbul Branch, Commission Against Racism and Discrimination and the European Grassroots Antiracist Movement (EGAM) at 12 p.m.
İstanbul Governorship's request that the word "genocide" be removed from the statement to be read out during the commemoration was announced as the reason for the cancellation of the ceremony. Three people have been detained
Three members of the İHD, Jihan Tosun, Gamze Yaman and Leman Yurtsever, who were carrying the banner, have been taken into custody.
16 members of the European Parliament and İHD İstanbul Branch executives rejected the request of İstanbul Governorship regarding the removal of the word "genocide" from the statement.
The commemoration statement was then read out at the building of İHD in Taksim at 1.30 p.m. What happened on April 24, 1915?
In Agos newspaper, Rober Koptaş had explained why April 24, 1915 is considered a milestone as follows:
"The majority of over 200 Armenian intellectuals arrested by policemen with lists in their hands on April 24, 1915 had waged a lifelong struggle of ideas with pens in their hands.
"A great number of these people, who were journalists, writers, teachers, politicians, merchants and ecclesiastics, were massacred in Çankırı and Ayaş where they were sent into exile.
"Though the date of April 24, 1915 is not the starting point of the great calamity which is called a 'massacre', 'disaster', 'exile' or 'mobilization' in different parts of Anatolia and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, it is still one of the most important milestones.
"The elimination of the elites who shaped the cultural lives of a people created a great sorrow and impact, leading to a desertification which would also affect all of the next generations.
"As a result of the respect that they have for this group of creators, Armenians have adopted the date April 24 as a milestone. Commemorating them means commemorating all innocent losses of this old people."

Undeniable evidence exists of the act and documentation shows it was ordered from the top leaders in Turkey.
103 years later? It is time for universal recognition.
I wonder why it was cancelled.
De Nile isnt just the name of a river in Egypt.
- Mark Twain
Every year (which is today in Hollywood) the Armenians fly their flags which again, caused traffic for everybody this morning.
I sometimes dont get it. If a percentage of your people were wiped out, why didnt you retaliate? Which caused my Armenian friends to look at me funny. The Turks are not in denial they did it, they just chose to ignore it. They got away with it, and the Armenians keep reminding everyone it happened but then what? What did the Armenians do afterwards? Nothing except yearly commemorations..
I recall back in the 80’s on the Mall in DC seeing a group collecting money for Armenian genocide awareness. All kinds of poster visuals of the carnage.
And the Iranians were there begging for money showing posters of the Shah’s supposed tortures.
Anyone know if those kind of interest groups are still stinking up the place?
Guess you could say the same things about the Jews, right?
Nope. Guns and slingshots.
I’ve no knowledge of any of that.
Correct. Denial changes nothing.
How would you effectively describe the Armenian genocide without actually using the word Genocide.?
Answer: Call it the “Great Evil” (Metz Yeghérn as called in Armenian)
Originally there was no word to describe it. After the Armenian mass murders, the word Genocide came into use.

Could be a faith in the justice of God whose timeline is not ours and whose patience is verrrry long. The innocent will be avenged.
Rev 16
4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of waters; and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying, Righteous are You, who are and who were, O Holy One, because You judged these things; 6 for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. They deserve it. 7 And I heard the altar saying, Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.
The victims of the Armenian Genocide weep.
So much for “Never Again”.
dont need to look at Wiki links..i boycott them.
Agree, NEVER AGAIN!
But it is almost that bad now for some in Afrin, Syria. Under occupation by Erdogan the Islamist’s ISIS and al Qaeda Jihadi’s.
That is not an exaggeration.
