Dan Daly is said to have yelled, “Come on, you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever?” to the Marines in his company prior to charging the Germans during the Battle of Belleau Wood in World War I.
Marines are still the same.
One of my grandfather’s brothers fought in WWI. He and a friend who later became his brother-in-law rode on a motor cycle from central Texas to El Paso to enlist. They were sent to Spain to bring teams of mules to move equipment. They took care of the mules and used them to move the heavy stuff around. At that time, mechanized war was not yet totally mechanized. They were in the Army, not Marines. But that was a horrible bloody war.
Belleau Woods should always be remembered.
