The statistic I read is that more than 10,000 people per year are killed by drunk driving. That doesn’t say to me “society can handle widespread intoxication.”

That's a terrible thing - yet in the big picture about 1 death in 300. And there's little reason to think banning alcohol would decrease this; nobody would ever call a cab to drive them home from an illegal speakeasy bar.

I never said it should be banned. It won’t be, too many boozehounds gotta get their drooling drunk on.
