The Daily Caller notes that the Privileged Account Access Form (pdf) used by the House, to garner access to IT services, allows the “authorizing official” to provide their assessment of trustworthiness via a background check in accordance with the guidance or via an attestation of trustworthiness.

The Daily Caller called 44 members of Congress and found that none disputed that they had used the attestation option, but none would identify which of their colleagues provided the original attestation of trustworthiness.

And thus, this is how the opportunity to understand more about Awan was lost, as there was no original background check conducted—one member of Congress told another that Awan was a good egg, and he was granted access.

This was during the GW Bush Administration in 2004. Robert Wexler, Florida Congressman, first hired Awans. Congressmen have always been able to clear their own staff, and other Congressmen have been able to rely on clearance provided by another Congressman.

Gregory Meeks (NY) and Xavier Becerra (CA) were among the first to hire Awans after Wexler.

I doubt it, since he graduated with his IT degree in 2004, IIRC.

That said, he was clearly "someone's friend" and got the job because of that connection. My personal, uncorroborated guess is that someone from Pakistan, probably ISI connected, had an eye on this guy, and in exchange for contributions was able to ask for his hiring.

The bio I read on Awan said he'd "won" a visa lottery. I wouldn't be surprised if these cards were allotted by the Pakis through a rigged lottery to people they thought could be useful agents down the road. The payoff on this guy was HUGE. If he wasn't such a greedy, undisciplined criminal in other respects, he could have remained hidden for a very long time.

He was definitely not on Hillary’s Senate payroll. But there is legitimate suspicion of a connection to Hillary because Awan was able to get Chris Gowen as his attorney. Gowen worked in the Bill Clinton White House and for Hillary’s 2008 campaign.

CASE IN POINT --- NY Democrat Cong Yvette Clarke is only one of the Democrats exposed for Paki thefts.

(A) Democrat Clarke did not alert authorities to the huge amt of missing tech equipment that she had "written-off" to the tune of $120,000 tax dollars around Feb 2016.

(B) Clarke failed to mention the $120,000 worth of govt-issue tech equipment she ordered got delivered to Imran's home........not to her office.

(C) A Congressman's written request to House admin to sign away that much "lost" electronic equipment would have been “way outside any realm of normalcy,” particularly since Clarke's small office employed only 16 aides. The $120,000 tax dollars would have bought about 150 devices.

(D) Clarke's office failed to alert authorities until months later when House administrators told Clarke's office they were reviewing finances connected to the Awans.

He was definitely NOT the guy who did the bathroom server deal. His introduction into the DC is via Schultz. I would suspect some lobbyists that Schultz knew, or some connection via the 23th District in Florida. She’s never been asked this....oddly enough.

What Schultz has said in public....amounts to a 3 x 5 card worth of information....on the Awan deal.

Oddly in addition, the GOP doesn’t want to bring this up either. I think several of them have some connection back to this guy (campaign funds or lobbyists). There’s more to the story, but you will never know the extent. In the old days....60 Minutes would have done a full hour on this topic. Today? Nothing.
