Wildly conflicting social media reports tonight claim bullets were either fired as part of an attempted coup - or to shoot down a toy drone.
A police spokesman said forces at a checkpoint in the Khozama district, where the palace is based, identified the drone and "dealt with it according to their orders", local media said.
The explanation came after wildly conflicting reports on social media speculating on the cause of the shooting. Senior Saudi officials said King Salman was not in the palace at the time despite repeated Twitter reports he was moved to a military bunker in the city amid the unfolding panic.

This is the second article about this in breaking news. Tempest in a teapot.
The earlier post claimed there was a coup.
I posted this in BN also, to set the record straight.
How do we know that Brennan isn’t behind this coup too?
The coup failed. Toy drones to be made of would-be coup people’s body parts and blown up for the amusement of the King and as a deterrent against future coups.
Toy is obviously a mis translation of non commercial or non military drone designation.
There can be a small but sophisticated civil craft that is not a toy but rather a hobby craft
There was a coup and the drone’s the cover story because the coup failed, and His Majesty wants to hush it up.
...And the gunfire that went on for an extended period of time from all corners of the palace was merely celebratory gunfire over the successful shoot-down??? (/sarc)
Ok, I can accept that as a possibility
Probably the would-be revolutionaries are right now meeting an unpleasant, obscure end in the palace basement. Making drones out of their body parts (before killing them) is the product of my own questionable imagination.
So..... do they sell a lot of “toy” drones in Saudi Arabia?
No. Which is probably why they used a cannon to take it down. They thought it was a seagull, or some other kind of Israeli spy./s
Oh, now your onboard, Right Sluggo!
You seem quite ignorant. The Saud’s have virtually anything available on the world markets especially any of hundreds of different drones
... that’s the ticket.
That info still might leak out.
“There can be a small but sophisticated civil craft that is not a toy but rather a hobby craft”
Who did the owner hire to fly it for him?
your ignorance is showing
BREAKING: Latest “Q drop” says shooting at a drone is just another cover story. Real story: 10,000 albino terrorists parachuted onto grounds of Saudi Royal Palace. After bloodbath in attempted takeover of Saudi Royal Family, all terrorists were killed. Saudi Royal Family is all dead, too. SA now under control of the Dalai Lama.
