In memo from 1/7/17 sent to CapHill, Comey says Trump asked him if he “hoped I planned to stay on. I assures him I intended to stay. He said good.”

That’s not very unusual.... Lots people do that.
You send it to yourself then forward to folder were you have original email
With gmail email threads sometimes grow into 100’s of email responses.
It’s real easy to get lost trying to find a particular one...
