The general statement about parents are concerned. Are these the parents in Cody or just parents nationwide? I live close to Yellowstone. We in this area by and large are gun owners and arent afraid of them. The weapon folks carry for defense is not a weapon to match up against a grizzly. The weapons that are reliable for a bear encounter are not suitable for CCW. In grizzly country you carry as big a hand gun as you are comfortable with. Its not a ccw candidate. CCW is for two legged animals.
BLM! (Bear Lives Matter)
Im not in Cody
But when was last Grizzly attack on a human in Park county WY?
Googling furiously....
I believe three statewide last year.
Two in Park county and one in Jackson area
Thus makes good sense
In grizzly territory a handgun is only slightly better than nothing. MAYBE, if you get a lot of rounds into the beast, will you drop the BP enough to get it down, or get a couple of shots into the brain. MAYBE
Big game requires big guns, as a rule. Of the guns I actually own, I’d prefer my plain old shotgun with magnum slugs to deal with a charging grizzly. When they get their dander up, you basically have to tear their hearts or brains apart to get them down, so I’ve heard.
And how many school teachers have the cool and the savvy to take down a Grizzly with a handgun?
It can be done, but it’s not for the novice.
