...In the original article, the husband told her where the contraband was...

Right you are, but the "contraband" was nothing but weapons and parts/accessories which can be legally possessed in all civilized states without the prior restraint of needing a permit. And, his previous conviction was also for possessing weapons without a permit which most of us here classify as a violation of the 2A.

The solemnization of a marriage is (oftentimes, but not always) a religious act carried out according to the customs and regulations a faith group.

For a government to delegitamize the solemnization on the basis of not “recoginizing” that faith group or the authority of its leadership/clergy is precisely why we have the First Amendment.

Government can require a civil ceremony and a license....yet the long standing practice of recoginizing Common Law marriage diminishes that necessity.

The government is not delegitimizing the”solemnization” of a marriage based on not “recognizing” a faith group.

In THIS country there is a legitimate necessity to have legally recognizable marriage; Property rights, parental rights, inheritance, medical care choices, children rights ... Do you get it ?

It’s not the same as you saying “Yes, we’re married, we were married by Wiccan priestess Xajnny at the holy Voodoo temple on Bowery street.
