Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who sought the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2016 election but lost out to Hillary Clinton, on Monday criticized Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his policies.
"As someone who believes absolutely and unequivocally in Israel's right to exist... we must say loudly and clearly, that to oppose the reactionary policies of Prime Minister Netanyahu does not make us anti-Israel," Sanders told the annual conference of the J Street organization.
He took issue with Israels response to the recent riots along the border with Gaza, claiming Israel "massively overreacted" to the protests.
"The presence of Hamas members among a crowd of tens of thousands does not justify the level of violence we saw, and frankly its amazing to me that anyone would find that point controversial," Sanders said.
"I have condemned Hamass use of terrorist violence and will continue to do so. But that violence cannot excuse shooting at unarmed protesters, and it cannot excuse trapping almost two million people inside Gaza," he charged.

He lost to Hillary Clinton..he lost to Hillary Clinton...
Whatever, Bernie. But criticizing Jews who try to defend themselves and stay alive does make you an anti- Semite

The people in Gaza are not trapped. They are just not allowed into Israel. Egypt won’t allow them into their land either. So who you choose to blame makes you what you are.
Said by a an atheist, communist and all around good pal to murderous islamists.
bttt!
Meretz, the Israeli political party closest to Sanders’ views, usually gets 4% of the vote in an Israeli election.
Thou dost protest too much.....uh huh...not anti-semites...by your fruit
No kidding and with the hand wringing over the extreme right it has been the LEFT over the last 20 years that have Israel’s worst critics.
The Jews in the Philipic Corridor in Ghaza were forcibly evicted from Ghaza so that the 2,000,000 Ghazans could supposedly have self-determination. Now they determined that the rockets and attack tunnels aren’t enough, and they want to invade outright. If Vermont won’t take them, then STFU.
Now just a cotton pickin’ minit here. Let’s be fair. They inject their Jewishness into the issues they support as if it were their personal property. “As a Jew I must support gay marriage.” “As a Jew I must support environmental regulations on your lawn.” “As a Jew I must support the latest climate change fad.” “As a Jew I must support Nuremberg-style common-sense gun confiscation.” “As a Jew I must support guys in dresses invading the girls’ bathroom in public schools.” How can you possibly oppose liberal policies without being anti-Semitic, when the debate is couched in these terms. You might as well be a storm trooper if you dare dissent from this agenda. And if you dare disagree or wear a fascistic MAGA cap, an anti-fa thug will attack you with a cudgel.
I have part Jewish heritage, was raised without any formal religious education, and studied religion as a minor in college. I have great respect for and affinity to the spiritual side of Judaism, and can't understand for a second how so many Europeans and Americans, including a significant number of secular Jews, choose to side against Israel - a strip of land in a sea of Middle Eastern hatred. I recently had this conversation with one of my best friends from college, who is a very liberal American Jew. He absolutely hates Trump, and hates the Christian Evangelicals. I tried to tell him that generally Evangelicals are very pro-Israel (I'm not an Evangelical, but this is my impression from my interactions), and that most of the anti-Semites I've come across in life are liberals. He didn't want to listen to this, as it doesn't fit with his leftist Democrat world view.
This is part of the reason why I left America for Israel. The lunacy is too much. When Obama was inaugurated, my Tevye sense started tingling, and I knew it was time to go. Trump is wonderful, but the lunacy is still there, and I’ve had a half century of it already.
Liberal American Jews are utterly convinced that evangelical Christians are somehow going to force them to be baptized. I guess hide under their beds and do it in the middle of the night. I am not exaggerating, I have heard on multiple occasions (Interestingly enough 9 times out of 10 its from a female doing this!) telling that me that if there’s ever an evangelical Christian President there will Imperial Russian-like programs against Jews.
I often wonder what God thinks, when a Jew hates his own people. The Jews of Jesus’ time on this Earth hated him because they knew He spoke the truth—He was Truth. But He did not come to Earth to rule at that time, as the Pharisees, scribes, Saducees, the High Priest Ciaphas and Pontiac Pilate thought with satanic hatred, but “give His life a ransom for many.” Before the foundation of the world, before every person ever born, Jesus was predestined to give His Life for each one of us. When He returns to destroy the armies that the antichrist leads against Him, the Jewish people will finally have their spiritual blindness removed so they will see Jesus as their Messiah that they had rejected.
