We’ve conducted maneuvers before with Russian Kilos in friendlier times.
And Poland has one too...
I wonder if they would have fired any war shots.
I guess everyone has forgotten the cold war.

Exactly. I wonder... The UK sub didn't fire any missiles into Syria, but apparently US submarine(s) did.
In a coordinated effort, one sub could get the Russian's attention by intentionally making noise and letting itself be tracked and "chased out of the operational area." However, in so doing they dragged the Kilo out too - clearing the area for the US sub.
Also, it makes the job of the UK sub all that much easier if they had to engage the Kilo. Nothing like getting them to follow you instead of having to go to all the work of tracking them. Of course, you have to be confident in your torpedo countermeasures and evasive maneuvers to employ those tactics... Big brass ones...

many years ago, I read many reports that the Brits were master submariners. The US would send fledgling skippers to Scotland to learn from them. I am hoping this is still so and this confirms it.

Amusing drivel of ignorance this is. Fire one or all, radar of a sophisticated enemy knows exactly where it came from.
Kilos are more sneakers than hunters as they are totally silent at 5 knots.
They cannot chase subs but they can locate them stealthily
Have to bump that.. it is in my top five most watched and most loved movies... with Twister, volcano, hitch and battleship. My hubby isn’t a big hitch fan, so that’s for the girl days.
I also liked Battleship i thought it was a fun movie.
I don’t get then bad rep that it gets from people.
Better be pepperoni, or there’s no deal.
