Sad. I liked him a lot more in his movies than in his TV shows. I think he had greater range as an actor than people give him credit for.

I saw a short article that Gunny wanted to volunteer on the actual election staff in 2015 and became buds with POTUS. Didn’t surprise me that the President tweeted the information.

My son and I got a great education in weapons, history, military philosophy, and innovative ways of blowing things up through DVDs of his TV shows.

Definitely a victim of type-casting. But he made a pretty good living playing a stock character he knew inside and out from personal experience. Full Metal Jacket is essentially two films because he so dominates the first half of it. Often imitated but never duplicated. And celebrated by millions.
