President Donald Trump has defended his use of the term "mission accomplished" amid criticism following US, UK and French air strikes on targets in Syria.
He accused the "fake news media" of seizing on the term to demean the strikes, carried out in response to an alleged Syrian chemical weapons attack.
President George W Bush was ridiculed for appearing in front of a banner carrying the term during the Iraq war.

The media wants the unilateral disarmament of the US. That for them is when mission is accomplished by using the dialectic of this bombing to let Russia get arms and us stay disarmed.
Trump is now getting boxed in into a coward’s exit
Yes but that is reminiscent of George W Bush’s,
“Mission Accomplished”.
It’s almost as if someone else is tweeting under Trump? I am really starting to think the Deep State has got to President Trump.
Nonsense. Bush would have sent ground troops in to overthrow Assad.
Doing nothing about a chemical weapons attack would have been reminiscent of Obama.
“MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”
He’s telegraphing something to somebody....
President Trump KNOWS this phrase is linked to Bush’s quagmire, yet he tweets it right after?
Something is NOT right.
“Hes telegraphing something to somebody....”
That never occurred to me, but now that you mention it...
I like what President Trump did here. IIRC, the original “Mission Accomplished” was a sign pertaining to the specific mission of that one ship. Its inclusion in the picture with Bush was taken way out of context by the LSM, and “Mission Accomplished” became one more in an increasing number of Things You Cannot Say. As he mentions in his tweet, Trump wants to bring back the term to its proper use, and that is laudable.
Every time one of the good guys says one of the Things You Cannot Say, the Overton Window gets pushed just a little bit back in the right direction.
Big mistake IMHO.
That is completely accurate, and a textbook example of Enemedia creation of Fake News Narratives.
See Trump’s follow up tweet in post 8;
That mission was accomplished. No more, no less, no mistake.
We’ll have to wait and see, we should have some indication by some states Republican primaries, and generally by November.
Mission Accomplished!
When is the parade?
Now ...
No, that was the parade after Obama started the civil war there!
Or was it the parade after Barack and Hillary turned Libya into a failed state?
Or was it the parade after Barack and Hillary turned Libya into a failed state?
That's funny, most all of 'em say that their parade ends in Paris or London.
There is NO END to this.
Why don't we also WASH HIS CAR, for crying out loud..?
How many bags full, sir..?
Jeez...!
Thank you! I am glad that this is still remembered here.
The Syrian raid was so perfectly carried out, with such precision, that the only way the Fake News Media could demean was by my use of the term Mission Accomplished. I knew they would seize on this but felt it is such a great Military term, it should be brought back. Use often! [Another Sunday, Another Trump Tweetstorm]
To understand the dynamics of this you need a detailed understanding of modern Jewish, Israeli and Iranian history.
Israel and Iran were once extremely close, both were exceptional Western oriented Nations, and Israel bears significant responsibility for the loss of Iran to Radical Islamic Fundamentalist Terrorists.
It appears Netanyahu may repeat the mistakes Israel previously made regarding Iran and their allies, expecting different results than last time.
Unfortunately, repeated trials confirm he will get the same results, there will be more Islamic Terror from the geographical area known as Iran rather than less.
If you are interested, study up on Iranian history of the last 150 years and it will become clear to you.
