Yeah, I know, nytimes. And I know there are some folks on board FReerepublic that do NOT use FB and otheres do for various reasons, so, maybe this article can help you or them or your loved ones cut down on some of the info that suckerburg has stored on you/them. It appears that there are some things that can not be removed or deleted. Me? Nope. Mrs.rktman, yeah, so...............

There are many ways the data is being collected.

IMHO, Facebook is one of the worst offenders.

I think it’s basically a honeypot. Kinda like another operation which grew rather exponentially....

But then, Nully gave me my official tinfoil hat when I joined up!

Never been there.
When I was hiring for classified positions, had some folks who were naive enough to have signed up there check names.
Crossed off any potential employee that was there.
Still got excellent employees, hah!

Internet tracking (cookies) has been a common practice for years on every site visited.
I’m not seeing why this is just now being discussed. I’ve been offended by this invasion of privacy for decades.

My fake fakebook page has me as a white man who thinks he is a black lesbian.
I should see what kind of stuff they have on me.

The author wrote: My profile is sparse, I rarely post anything on the site, and I seldom click on ads. (I’m what some call a Facebook “lurker.”)

OK, no presence on FB. That's good. Then the author wrote: The social network had even kept a permanent record of the roughly 100 people I had deleted from my friends...

LOL...he DELETED 100 "friends" and claims he was a "lurker." What a joke. Other than family and true old college friends, I've added, I think, maybe one "friend" on FB. I have maybe 7 or 8 total.

I haven’t checked in on FB file... but I get these calls all the time... I do a little of anything when they call... I let them listen to Rush until they hang up... or I don’t say anything and it’s blank until they hang up.. I don’t answer most of the time... or click on and then off.... But if I do answer and they call me by my name, I stop them in mid sentence and ask why are they calling this number when I did not ask them to... where did you get this number and where did you get a name.. by the time I get all the questions asked, they are ready to hang up... but on “where did you get his number”, they say they have a data file or etc.. I ask where did it come from and they don’t know. I tell them to take this number off their list.. and NONE Of the things I say to them is in a friendly way..

I’m sorry to be rude... but they ask for it when they dial my number, and say “this is ___ and I’m calling on a recorded line.. can you hear me?”. man, are they asking for it. Or they say “is this ___ ____ “? I do have calls I expect and it does not say who is calling.. just a number... and so when they say my name, and I don’t know them, it’s katy bar the door.

I also have been getting all kinds of magazines that I did not order.. don’t order any magazines... They have my address but a name I never heard of. I tried different things, but as of now, I write on the address of the magazine “this is not my magazine, this person does not live here” and put it back in the mail box. ...One time I told the carrier to only deliver with the last name.. and explained when I am gone for 2-3 days, these magazines fill up my box and mail can’t be delivered in a full packed box. I’m still giving them back to the carrier and he’s taking them back. I feel he is the deliverer of junk mail and I don’t want it! Some of the magazines are not fit to put in my box.

I spent fifteen minutes following the link on how to see the copy of your data that Facebook has. I was never able to find it. It says on every facebook page there is a little arrow that you click and it will go to Settings. I could never find that.

Facebook is evil. Very evil. Satan is on the Board of Directors and sits at the right hand of Zuck.

Announcing the start of the 'facebook is evil' ping list:

A Facebook page is a public persona. Some of this is just the price one pays for having a public persona. More sinister is the fact that if you don't have a public persona many of your economic transactions will be used to create one for you. If it's possible to draw a line in this murky business, that might be a good place to start.

Unfortunately it would be very difficult to enforce given the distributed nature of the data and the fact that it may actually be residing in Calcutta or Guangzhou. I'm not sure it is possible to prevent it from being gathered, analyzed, or traded, at least at this point. Even multiple identities may be linked by, say, a street or IP address. It may be possible to punish companies or other institutions for using it. For that we'd need an honest broker, and unfortunately what we are now learning about corruption in the FBI is very discouraging regarding the gathering and illicit sharing of nominally private information. That has, unfortunately, been going on longer than computers have existed. In 24 hours information taken from an attorney's office turned up being blasted out shamelessly via the Wall Street Journal and CNN. These are not honest brokers, nor will any privacy movement gain any traction among those who are already in such gross violation.

I just googled “grumpygresh” (via startpage) and I have 7 citations between 2009-2014 and one in 2018 (posted an article).

Some were put on vikingkitties, diggersrealm that were lifted from an FR post. I didn’t find anything on “rktman”.

I did FB early and bailed early...
I was wondering how I would find out how much info FB has on me when I haven’t been a member for years.
Haven’t found out how...yet....

I do my best to poison pill my personal ID across the net. Different birthplaces, birthdates, addresses, fake friends, phones, spouses etc.

Hard to hide completely but do my best to obfuscate and cause data collisions.

The personal contact information is available on everybody. Just look at white pages. All Facebook can collect, that you or me cannot collect ourselves, is internally posted Facebook stuff.
