It could be managed opposition as mentioned earlier, ie: provides further proof to MSM and politicians Reaganite baby boomers who used to care about principle and the Constitution are dying out / worn out / resigned to kissing it all goodbye.
Once we’ve lost the 2A, we lose everything else shortly thereafter.
