It is tragic that we haven’t the maturity to responsibly discuss amending these programs to prevent the inevitable national bankruptcy they guarantee in the absence of reform. Republicans are culpable on this, to be sure, but it’s nothing compared with Democrats, who would rather demagogue than breathe.
Limbaugh is clueless. The Democrats want to dig a bigger hole. By merely holding the line, the GOP is doing yeoman’s work. Note that public sentiment is in favor of Santa Claus policies. Can’t get elected if you play Scrooge. Ryan was politically autistic - he kept bringing up cuts to Medicare and Social Security that screwed mainly GOP voters. I don’t blame him for the problems in getting the GOP program through, since popular primaries mean he doesn’t have the power to fire House GOP members. But he definitely doesn’t help GOP vote margins, because of his constant harping on Social Security and Medicare.
Only a complete fool would believe a word that comes out of Paul Ryan’s mouth at this point, but Limbaugh’s basic point is correct.
We have devolved into a nation of selfish, entitled babies. The question isn’t whether or not we will eventually pay dearly for this, but merely when.
