Lets take the 'all they want is a better life' excuse and apply it-not to the country- but to each American's house: You come home from vacation- or even a workday- and find strangers in your home who 'only want the better life' that you have. Awwww. While there they have done your dishes and made themselves marginally useful . Do you value their 'help', pity them and allow them to stay, or call the police and charge them with breaking and entering? Does their intent-and dishwashing maybe- make them any less than criminals? Oh, and when they are taken away, can they keep whatever they helped themselves to in your home?

I doubt that anyone defending these invaders of our country would tolerate their invading their personal homes,much less excuse and defend their 'wanting a better life' in their living rooms.
