President Donald Trump has deputized two top economic advisers to explore re-entering the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade accord he withdrew from after taking office, Senator Ben Sasse told reporters.

“He multiple times reaffirmed the point that TPP might be easier to join now,” Sasse said Thursday.

Two White House officials who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that the president directed economic adviser Larry Kudlow and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to explore the feasibility of re-entering the TPP. White House spokesmen didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

I highly doubt Trump will stab America in the back by re-joining the TPP.

Obviously no one bothers to read.

He said if the terms were favorable to the U.S.. The same thing he’s said all along.

They wont be, so we aren’t. So there is no story.

You would think people would understand Trump’s playbook by now that he seeks concessions more favorable to the United States.

It took four or five years to negotiate TPP to begin with. What's in it for the other countries to begin that all over again, especially since they've moved on and enacted the updated agreement amongst themselves?

Sasse? The only way it’s more credible would be if Flake and McCain were with him in this.

It took four to five years for Obama to negotiate it? I doubt the Obama Administration was that engaged other than put the United States at a trade disadvantage. If the other countries don't want to concede certain aspects of TPP, I bet Trump will not want to reenter TPP.

For instance, here is an area that should be dropped from TPP, which is really an attack on US sovereignty and to fleece the US.

"The concerns surrounding the TPP that caused outrage in the United States and around the world include the treaty's establishment of transnational kangaroo courts purporting to allow foreign corporations and even state-owned enterprises (such as the Communist “companies” in Vietnam) to sue American taxpayers. The agreement also established an unelected, unaccountable governing regime that could change the scheme later on, without congressional approval."

It's their problem if the US does not rejoin TPP with the same agreements and not the United States.

I’m fairly confident he won’t be rejoining any trade deals that turn our decisions over to some globalist body.

I don't get the impression that the other countries see it as a problem if the U.S. doesn't rejoin.

Here's the thing: ISDS (Investor-State Dispute Settlement) is not new - every Free Trade Agreement comes with it to make sure that the treaty nations comply with the terms of the agreement. One more thing - no one knows how to use the ISDS system better than us - because we have the best lawyers: In these disputes, the U.S. and American companies have over 90% win rate, but hey, who cares about facts?
