I'm on board with this - but the corollary to this has to be that the US does not take in thousands of Syrian refugees fleeing from the chaos that Assad, ISIS and Russia are causing.

Yes, that is one side effect I have been thinking about. According to the pro-refugee people, they are ALL refugees, even though they clearly are not.
