Russia has moved almost all of its warships from the port of Tartus in Syria ahead of a potential strike on the country by the United States, according to satellite images published Wednesday...Trumps warlike tweets came in response to a warning from Russias ambassador to Beirut, who took to a television network run by the Hezbollah terror group to declare that any US missiles would be shot down as well as the sources they were fired from.

I am not talking about Yeltsin being in power in 2016 but many are making a comparison of the Russian military which was decrepit under his presidency is not the same as Putin’s which has taken serious measures to modernize and transform their previous military.
Beefed it up so much that they had to send a tug to escort their (one) aircraft carrier to Syria.
Russia’s military is small-time, rusted and manned by drunks. They haven’t been able to go toe to toe with us for over 30 years.
Yet they still had to send a tug with the few ships they could muster for a sortie to Syria. In 2016. Not 1990.
You remind me of those folks who used to go on about ‘Saddam’s battle hardened Republican Guard’.
Yet they still had to send a tug with the few ships they could muster for a sortie to Syria. In 2016. Not 1990.
They still are in much better shape than you think. They embarrassed us in 2013 when the last chemical attack happened in Aleppo.
Read post#38 about some of their newest toys. This is only a small example of what they have been up to. They are also building new attack subs, new ICBMs, cruise missiles, warplanes and some seriously powerful missile frigates. They are in the acquisition phase on these programs too.
They’re not and they embarrassed Obama (easily done) not the US military.
See your mail for response.
All the Russians in the Med have to is locate, the Russian navy in the Caspian sea will do the shooting, while the Bears etc will launch stand off missiles from inside Syria.
Meanwhile, the US Navy is not fairing so well with all the collisions, failure to train and maintain, spare parts shortages, and sex change operations.
The ships in the Caspian are new.
Relocate where? The eastern Med isn’t the Pacific. Caspian Flotilla? A couple of old frigates and some corvettes?
Just admit that you don’t have a clue, you’ll feel better for it. Have some pride in our military as well.
Taking out Syrian airfields, C&C centers, and even aircraft will not hurt the Russians unless they are stupid enough to stand on the runways.
What would be interesting is if we knew where Assad stored his chemical weapons and blew them to hell, spreading “good cheer and love throughout the land”.
Assad doesn’t give a damn about bad publicity, only the Russians (oh so sensitive today while killing civilians in anti-Assad areas).
The US is probably going to do what the Israelis do, get firm intelligence and than use surgical strikes to eliminate the threats. Not hard in this day and age of lasers and computers.
They have many problems but do not underestimate their raw, powerful disregard for human life, morality and love for destruction.
The Russian armed forces may be lacking in terms of operational ability but they have been fighting and testing their troops and equipment for years in Syria now.
The Nazis did the same thing during Spain’s Civil war...
You make it sound like US and UK forces have been sitting in barracks and painting rocks for the last 15 years.
Guess you missed the cruise missiles those ships in the Caspian hit Syria with. They are able to hit any where in the eastern Med, BTW, that includes US and Allied naval ships.
Search: “russian launched caspian sea missiles”
I said “locate” not “relocate”: “All the Russians in the Med have to is locate”
And thanks for the personal attack; Jim would be proud of you: Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts.
NO, but who has more combat experience for air, land and sea forces in that theater?
The United States of America.
