I have been saying exactly this for years now. We have two tribes in this country and we are simply incompatible. It is much better that we just go our separate ways peacefully.
The Northeast, Left Coast, Miami, Chicago, Occupied Northern Virginia and other parts of the upper Midwest to one side - the non Left Coast West, most of the Midwest, Alaska and Dixie to the other side. Everybody will be much happier. Some states like New York, California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois and Pennsylvania will need to be divided in addition to giving off those two parts from Florida and Virginia.
Divorce is regrettable but its better than a bad marriage that makes everybody miserable.
“It is much better that we just go our separate ways peacefully.”
We can’t. We’re entwined. You can’t just draw a line. It’s urban vs rural, neighbor vs neighbor.
That's like asking the gay supremicists at the national synod meeting to agree to leave the traditional church and start their own. It's been going on for 25 years, but they won't go. Nothing but an overthrow of the traditional church will satisfy them.
I understand that Lincoln tried to reason with both factions before the Civil War, and if ever there was a compelling case for reasonable solutions, that was it. Instead, thousands died and yet the war has never really ended, as last year in Charlottesville and the BLM readily demonstrate. It's such a waste, because the Industrial Revolution and the cotton gin soon came along and would have ended chattel slavery economically. But you'd have to have been God to have foreseen that. And mechanization still wouldn't have solved the social problem.
