There is a furore in Australia over concerns China is aiming to make a huge wharf it has built at Luganville in Vanuatu a naval base.
According to Fairfax media in Australia there have been reports that China has discussed with Vanuatu using the new 360 metre wharf at Luganville as a naval base. The wharf was built by a Chinese company funded by a soft loan from China.
Don Wiseman spoke with the director of the Lowy Institute's Pacific programme, Jonathan Pryke, and began by asking him if there is any credence in the report that China is chasing this naval base in Vanuatu.

Apparently the ChiComs aren't too concerned.
Australia should simply occupy that port, and by force (with smiles on camera from men in suits with briefcases) assert control of the islands.
You may not want to be a colonial power, but you dare not leave a vacuum.
This is an FU to Trump and the US Japan Australia India alliance.
I say reopen SEATO. Taiwan should be a member with a mixture of these foreign troops. Better yet a Greater Asia Co-Prosperiity Sphere with Japan as the big brother-just like b4 WW2.
Vanuatu is a South Pacific Ocean nation made up of roughly 80 islands that stretch 1,300 kilometers.
A huge Asian power building naval bases in the South Pacific islands? Based on 20th century history, I don’t think it ends well. (E.g. the Asian power’s cities get nuked).
