He has been persecuted and attacked and underestimated way more than Reagan ever was.

That is false. Reagan was derided as a senile old has-been, never-was actor of limited mental capacity who would get us all killed in a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. And he absorbed all of that with his trademark hail-fellow-well-met good humor, to the point that voters turned against his detractors, such that the Reagan years have far eclipsed the Eisenhower era as a time of prosperity and contentment in the current imagining, despite the highly contentious atmosphere of the era, and the lacerating commentary to which Reagan was routinely subjected.

Reagan still had more political experience, polish, connections, and support from his party. But indeed, he had to face an assassination attempt. Claws were definitely out for the man.

I think the state of our country and govt and alliances in 2016 was a little worse than when Reagan found it. Mainly because of the sorry state of Western Europe/NATO which sort of lost its sense of vision and purpose after Cold War. (But it’s slowly getting better.)

But regardless, he was tailor fit for his time. As was his style and rhetoric. Just as Trump is for ours with his sharp ascerbic tweets and uncensored truthtelling.

But Trump is no foreign policy dimwit. That’s my main argument.
