Yes, and opening up the city as Trump demands is a first step, then an investigation on where and who launched the attack. Maybe a rogue group. But once the culprits are clear, give them a chance to surrender, else kill them without mercy.
Why?
Assad has won. There may be a few small holdouts, but why would he risk everything, for them. These Middle Eastern rulers aren’t as dumb as some want them to be. And one of the reason’s they rule the way they do, is because they have to. Assad doesn’t want anymore outside involvement. He knows that by doing something like this, he risks outside involvement. But, so does his opposition. They just have to be the victims and point the finger at him in the hopes that they world will take him out. They’re getting someone else to do their dirty work, since they have failed.
Assad gains absolutely nothing by using chemicals against his own people.
and except for scattered fire the guns are silent and the mortars are not falling on Damascus - for now
I'm sure the Russians and Syrians would be happy to give tours especially of the " opposition activist" chemical weapons and labs they seized ... CNN was already on the scene... just havent published anything ... surprise
But now we are going to go attack the " animal" Syrians who defeated the terrorists. Freed over 130,000 civilians from terrorist control, negotiated with their enemy and humanely evacuated thousands of them to north with their families
Cruise missiles for peace
But I'm ok with the idea of killing all the ISIS folks and then doing a crime scene analysis.
Before we insist the Syrians back down, maybe we can insist the British let the world (including the Russians) see the evidence about the poison that was either sprayed on a park bench, put through a car's ventilation system or painted on a door handle. They don't know how it was done, but are very sure that the Russians were the incompetents who failed to kill the target but did manage to implicate themselves.
The Skripal poisoning is a police crime scene, and they botched it. It's a fool's errand to think they would do any better in a war zone, or to think they wouldn't choose their result for a political reason instead of a just one.
Once the culprits are clear? What is clear is that it is the ISIS folks who have so little regard for the lives of Syrian civilians. And the US diplomatic corps, after all it was Madeleine Albright who thought 500,000 dead Iraqi children was a fair price for ousting Saddam.
