Putin Cements Powerful New Alliance With Iran and Turkey at Syria Summit
Daily Mail ^ | April 5, 2018 | Chris Pleasance

Iran's President Rouhani, Turkey's President Erdogan, and Russia's President Putin shake hands as they meet in Ankara on Wednesday and pledge to create a 'lasting ceasefire' in Syria.

Russia and Iran are strategic partners, with Russia providing military and financial support in return for influence over the Middle East.

Putin supplies both countries with sophisticated military equipment. President Erdogan recently signed a $2.5 billion arms deal with Russia for S-400 sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles, which has caused consternation among Turkey's fellow Nato members.

And Russia helps both countries on energy. It is also building Turkey a $20 billion nuclear power station, which began construction yesterday, and last year Putin signed a $30 billion energy co-operation deal with Iran.

These deepening ties are of concern to Europe because Turkey acts as an important buffer zone for migrants, filters out jihadis attempting to cross the border. Turkey controls much of the flow of middle eastern refugees into Europe. It stemmed the influx after signing a deal with the EU in March 2016 - but if it reversed this agreement the political consequences in Europe would be enormous.

Turkey also backs rebel groups in the country's north (hash-marked red area) which are pitted against Assad. Meanwhile US influence largely relies on Kurdish groups,, though its support has been waning amid protests from Ankara.

Iran has been accused of supplying arms to the Taliban by the government of Afghanistan and is fueling the conflict in Yemen.

This will probably include a wholesale compromise of NATO secrets, as part of the package.

Turkey will probably need to be expelled for that reason, on top of others.

Putin panders to his best customers It’s all about russian jobs

That's what I'm thinking too. Best thing the world can do is become less dependent on middle eastern oil.

I've read other threads you've posted and for whatever reason you appear to preface your short time in Russia for a couple years as necessary to substantiate your opinions of the nation and it's leader....That said it does not take one living there to understand it's politics history and current state of affairs, nor it's people.

What you might consider "baggage" would likely not appear as that to Russians. Further we have in the past, and along with other nations indeed been "allies" with Russia in areas of agreement. History attests to that as well as currently. So you saying because of their "baggage there is no place to be a viable ally in the near term" is false.....Further it's certainly not "ridiculous" to assume they are driven by shared interests...when in fact the war against ISIS is 'shared', has and is fought by most countries for obvious reasons...despite tensions which might be otherwise.

Russia and it's Leadership is very much aware of their muslim population throughout it's country....friendly as well as hostile elements...they deal with their issues as they see fit for "their" country and it's people as does ours. You cannot assume Putins going to operate according to our standards nor us his.....these are certainly different means of governance based on the leadership and populations worldwide...all are different. I believe Trump understands this very well.

You are quite mistaken to say I'm sympathetic to Putin's version of events. Rather I do 'understand' why he frames events as he does....anyone who has studied the man and his style of governance as well as rise to power realizes one needs to understand any nations leadership in order to negotiate and work with them in any given situation. That does not mean they are in agreement or sympathetic. It is how agreements are reached and compromises made where possible.

As for people on FR I doubt they view through the lens of Obama how they view Putin.... Though it is true Putin showed greater leadership of his county than Obama did ours throughout his terms..that is an established fact and remains so....nonetheless Freepers are free thinkers and certainly can forge their own opinions and express them based on their understanding of events and leaders....So nobody here is "enthused" by Putin himself rather they do understand what true leadership for a country looks like and not....as well as how geopolitics works and not on the world stage.

Let me also add those who follow closely Russia and US interests as well as who aligns with who understands these will shift often......what is stated yesterday may not stand today as the political and economic climate changes..along with that policies which for the US changes every Presidential election and throughout their terms.

Fascinating to watch isn't it....I recall years ago when the matrix here on FR was highly operative and how we often alluded to the fact that Russia and China were slated to draw closer and closer and could see it slowly coming into view.......we can thank Obama for ‘throwing’ both together as they are today. He dropped the ball big time. ...However Russia and China's alliance is ‘temporary’ because both have separate world power agendas......And of course now interesting to see Putin align with Erdogan in their on again off again relationship....but the oil lines and nuclear will further hardwire them.....

Thank you very much metmom...you understand me well.

I do understand some here on FR have had themselves or a family history of really bad experiences with the USSR and in the history of Russia so that history is understandable and sensitive for them.

However we do understand where these alliances will ultimately end,.so we view Russia with one eye open always.. be it under Putin or another after him.....as it is written..

I’ve also got family history of bad experiences with Russia and the Ukraine and that does not prevent me from seeing clearly.

Putin will be in big trouble with his orthodox christian base if he takes any of this seriously.

I see it as crepe paper window dressing for now.

One needs to recognize that a significant portion of the Chinese population is comprised of the “Lost Sheep of the House of Israel.”

This will play significantly in what China does as fulfillment of prophecy shapes events.

WE have an advantage....it matters when you know the Lord how one views the world, both History and otherwise. I’ve considered this often of late, how would I think today were it not for the Lord?

There’s also a real ‘fear’ for countries formally of the USSR because they still see Russia through the lens of the USSR....and that’s because the mindset of those generations continues to be passed on to the next.

Asade of Syria defended Christians——Turkey better get on the band wagon and play the Russian game. Maybe Hagia Sophia will be a church again. Iran may want to build a Russian Othodox Church in their capital? Putin is playing them.

China’s Government leadership is ‘Communist’ regardless of whatever religious element comprises the population. And one with a defined world agenda. The leaders decisions are made purely through that lens.

.....”Putin is playing them”....

Of course he is, and likewise they Putin. All three have their own defined ambitions on the world stage...and that is dominance. Piggy backing each other currently will end up who gets there first....too loose to stand indefinitely.

Ezekiel 38: 5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them (MaGog, Meshek and Tubal), all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.

Today’s announced alliance sounds like this ancient list.

They just need: Cush (Eretria, Somalia) and Put (Libya).

It’s fascinating, scary and exciting at the same time. I just hope Jesus pulls us out of here before that happens.
