More than 1 million illegal aliens have received California driver’s licenses, the California DMV announced Wednesday.
Assembly Bill 60, authored by then-Assemblyman Luis Alejo in 2013, required California DMV offices to issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants as long as they can prove their identity and residence within the state.
The law has led to 1,001,000 undocumented immigrants receiving licenses as of March 31 but doesn’t give the licensees carte blanche to drive outside of California or fly across state or federal borders.

If you had read the article you would know that 12 states plus DC and Puerto Rico give drivers license to illegals and up until 1993 all states qave drivers license to illegals

"Testing" is mentioned but not defined; neither is whether it's a 'sign your 'X' as a test or if actual driving competence is involved.
I don't make any effort to identify whether drivers around me are mexican or honduran, they telegraph their ineptness and total indifference and disregard for the danger they pose for others.
All I know is that there is no evidence of competent driving within 100 miles of our home in California's Central Valley, by bewildered, deer-in-the-headlight female drivers with a carful of kids.

You are correct, Real Id is the substitute for National Id. When the Congress couldn’t get it passed into law, they attach some dollars for the States, and bingo, a little over half the States buy in. It appears that the remaining States are going to be increasingly reluctant to go along because the goalposts keep moving.
In addition to social security cards, start issuing every CITIZEN a US passport at no extra charge to the cit. Renew the same way, at no additional charge. Then require citizens who vote in federal elections to bring their passport with them to vote, or to provide their passport number when voting absentee. Anyone who forgets to provide a passport or passport number, gets a provisional ballot that must be verified before being counted.
Then make passport fraud of any kind a class A felony, prosecute and incarcerate accordingly.
I’ll happily pay taxes for the above.
Hard to believe all these high IQ literate illegals pass a written driving test, but have to sign with an X or a thumbprint. Much less fill out even the simplest application in any language.
We already have both a real and a national ID. It’s called a passport.
They will come and get our guns before they go after these illegals, count on it.
The wall matters not one whit as long as there is no penalty for being illegal. Sort of like letting bank robbers keep the loot if they get out of the bank with it.
I left 26 years ago this month and have not been back since.
