I wonder how much a perceived advantage in society to being a poofter / lesbian plays a role in kids’ decisions? There certainly is no cultural disadvantage to them choosing to be queer (nor indeed has there much been since they got bold enough to pose that question about why would they choose homosexuality as a go to defense of it).

What if we trained counselors that currently practice this type of therapy to a new approach. Keep doing the same thing but always include a caveat in each session that one should be true to one's self. Call it something like 'reversion aversion' therapy. That the aversion part might be a sham is no big thing because so much about this whole subject is really a sham.

So if you become gay and wish to change back, go to a counselor trained in this 'reversion aversion' therapy. If the therapy fails and you become straight again, oh well!. Therapy does not always work.
