During a speech at the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) last Thursday[Oct. 12, 2017], Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that U.S. asylum policies are open to “rampant abuse and fraud” and must be reformed to ensure the integrity of our immigration system. (Department of Justice, Oct. 12, 2017) The nation’s top law enforcement officer called on Congress to reform immigration laws to ensure that only credible claims are granted in the asylum review process. (Id.)
Although federal law requires the government to keep asylum applicants in custody until their claims are processed, former President Barack Obama fostered a catch-and-release policy which allowed asylum applicants to assert a “credible fear” claim and be released into the community while their case was pending. Unsurprisingly, many supposed asylum-seekers never show up for their court hearings, but instead disappear into the interior of the country without any lawful immigration status.

Attorney-General Sessions must step forward and put a sovereign judicial wall of protection between the American people and the advancing horde of asylum seekers.
After a positive review, is asylum a right or is it still at the discretion of the President or Secretary of State?

Good question--especially at this crunch point.
Seems like it becomes a "right" to any non-American claiming asylum--but the verdict of asylum or no-asylum comes from an Immigration Court that hears each individual case.
Asylum fraud has become epidemic since the Obama administration's "catch-and-release" policy noted in the FAIR article.
Sessions' speech puts the ball pretty squarely in his court.

It was reported that Trump calls Sessions Mr Magoo. Trump usually corrects the record if it’s Fake News, but there was no correction following the Mr Magoo story.
Ha! I didn’t think anyone else would remember that most unusual Don Knotts movie.
It isn't bashing to ask him to do his job or resign.
And it has very patriotic theme too.
In another post someone compared Jeff Sessions to Granny on the Beverley Hillbillies. That is just so wrong. How could anyone be so crass. Everyone knows that the only Beverley Hillbillies character comparable to Sessions is Jethro. They could be cousins.
It reminds me of the garbage barge that nobody wanted.
