Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy.
Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.
Notice how much effort president Trump's critics and attackers have put into isolating him by attacking people close to him?
They try to take out his inner circle supporters and confidants.
If they can't do that they plant seeds of distrust.
