Probably not. Hopefully it's more comforting to the 300,000 Americans who survived - if the French and Americans hadn't stopped the Chinese Army at Chipyong-ni, allied forces would likely have been knocked into the sea which would have been the greatest military disaster in American history. You can't blame the French for Truman's decision to intervene in Korea, for the Chinese invasion or other stuff - but we have to be grateful for their heroism while surrounded by a vastly superior force because that saved an entire US Army.
Perfect response.
"...The Chinese had driven the US Army back for hundreds of miles since entering the war. Morale was low, and the Soldiers had begun to think of the Chinese as unstoppable. This new attack punched several holes in the UN lines, and the situation was grim. The American commander, General Matthew Ridgway, decided to make a stand at Chipyong-ni to give the rest of the Army time to recover."
"US casualties at Chipyong-ni totaled 404, including 52 Soldiers killed. Chinese losses were far greater. Captured documents later revealed that the enemy suffered at least 5,000 casualties."
