DOE: If it werent for coal-fired electricity plants, the Northeast would have blacked-out during recent bomb-cyclone
From the Daily Caller: Coal-fired power plants kept the lights on for millions of Americans during Januarys bomb cyclone, according to an Energy Department report warning future plant retirements could imperil grid security.
Energy analysts at DOEs National Energy Technology Laboratory found that coal power kept the lights on for millions of Americans during the bomb cyclone that pummeled the eastern U.S. from late December to early January.
NETL analysts found that coal plants made up most of the incremental power utilities relied on to keep electricity flowing during the cold snap. Nuclear and oil power plants played a big role, NETL found, but coal provided 55 percent of extra power across six grid operators.

This should be front page news, but the msm will never touch it.
Personally, I wish the term ‘bomb cyclone’ and the Weather Channel’s penchant for naming snowstorms would just go away.
Not in NYS it didnt. Thanks to Albany, and per the EIA, NY gets about 1% of its electricity from coal.
Damn it! How do we expect to rid the planet of these unnecessary humans, if the power grid wont fail!
BINGO!
“... NY gets about 1% of its electricity from coal.”
Somehow I doubt that was the case during the storm.
Correct. NY imports much electricity from neighboring states and Canada.
Just like Germany on renewables works as long as French nuclear generation is accessible, when needed. Since Germany makes income on exports, they can afford this feel good luxury.
Yep, I was thinking about the huge hydro plants in Quebec that send power to NY...and I guess NY takes ‘credit’ for those as ‘renewable’, when the other half of the Leftist movement is chaining themselves to trees to prevent them from being built...due to their ‘tearing up’ (as they see it) of the environment.
Bomb cyclone sounds serious where as snow storm sounds fluffy.
