David Hogg Leads Laura Ingraham Boycott Over A Tweet

Parkland shooting survivor and pro-gun control activist David Hogg is now leading a boycott campaign against Fox News host Laura Ingraham after she knocked him for complaining about colleges that rejected his applications.

“David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it,” Ingraham wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning, linking a Daily Wire article. Her parenthetical: “Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA…totally predictable given acceptance rates.”

Ingraham’s tweet sparked a backlash in the media. Hogg responded by targeting Ingraham’s advertisers.

Hogg tweeted out a list of Ingraham’s 12 biggest advertisers and called on his followers to pressure the companies into boycotting Ingraham’s show over her tweet.

Laura Ingraham (@IngrahamAngle)

Any student should be proud of a 4.2 GPA —incl. @DavidHogg111.

On reflection, in the spirit of Holy Week, I apologize for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the brave victims of Parkland.

"Laura Ingraham apologized to Power Hogg in a statement posted to her Twitter account on Thursday."

"The apology wasn’t good enough for Hogg. He refused to accept her apology then doubled down on his boycott rampage."

"Hogg demanded Ingraham denounce Fox News as the only way he would accept her apology....."

The kid is a typical run of the mill millennial Democrat. Nothing special.

So, now she’s (Ingraham) made an @ss out of both of them. Geez.

I never said it was a 'smoking gun' or any 'evidence of some sort'.

I said it seems quite odd that a) he's 19 and in high school, STILL and b) riding a bike, rather than driving....to school.

I wonder what percent of the kids in his 'prison of a school' (his words, not mine) ride their bikes to school. He lives in a pretty affluent area and I would imagine most (not saying all) of the kids 16 - 18 drive to school. I know that's how it is in my county....with varying levels of income. They either ride the bus (small %), drive themselves (largest %) or ride w/friends (not a very large %)

Maybe. If so, I wonder how they’re feeling, now that Hoggbreath has refused her apology and is demanding she denounce Fox News.

He's not a public figure holding himself out to the public. He's a snot nosed kid.

That said elbow grease - thanks for saying I wasn't a snowflake even if I might sound like one on this issue... (I could also be wrong on the issue and the rest of you could be right...)

Here's my logic on why Laura should not have mocked him:

Let's say some some woman goes on stage, sings like a cat having it's tail pulled, and most people walk out of the theater vomiting... The next day Laura and the local newspaper mock the woman. Guns blazing, words being spit out to rival the disaster the night before... Fine. Good for Laura good for the press. It's a free country - tell the truth. The woman put herself out there in the public - and we have the right to mock her, laugh at her, and condemn her performance.

Totally fair.

Now, it's a day later - the person on the stage is a 7 year old boy and his second grade classmates. He had a cold the night before and in the locally broadcast performance, he sings like a cat having it's tail pulled...

Do you treat these two cases differently based on the ages and 'awareness' of the people involved even if they're both 'holding themselves out to the public'? YES. That's my take. I don't think Hogg can be a ‘public figure’ in the same way his father would be if his father was saying the same things.

What you’re saying is that David Hogg can have it both ways. He can brag that he’s changing the world but was rejected by four colleges. He can attack his president, his state’s governor, his state’s Republican senator, the NRA, its spokeswoman; he can address hundreds of thousands of “protesters” and call for a boycott and shutting down a major cable news channel .. but he should be treated like a child because he’s “only 17?”

Sorry, I’m not buying into your position.

I seriously appreciate your measured comments.

But my mother, bless her heart, used to say to me for fifty or so years of my life, "comparisons are odious".

I always felt she merely meant that comparisons illuminated little or that they were often simply worthless. I didn't think she meant any on that list of harsh synonyms for odious in the dictionary.

I'll just leave this "Hogg" topic for another day, and wish you a very meaningful Easter weekend.

I chose ‘singers’ in my example because early case law dealing with what a newspaper can say or not say about a person started in earnest with the Cherry Sisters... singers... the sisters were so bad they were often pelted with rotten tomatoes etc... (story and link below)

The courts determined they were “public figures” and they lost their case...other cases have refined the definition and my fear was that Laura might have crossed a line that would allow FoxNews to be sued... big time... that said you’ve been very gentle in your comments too - - and I wish you a Happy Easter.

from link:

https://www.npr.org/sections/npr-history-dept/2015/06/27/417439984/the-cherry-sisters-worst-act-ever

“...at the Dubuque Grand Opera House, they “were pelted with everything from an onion to a tin boiler and were afterwards badly treated on their way to their hotel.”

And they were lambasted in Odebolt. The editor of the local Chronicle wrote in February of 1898: “Their long skinny arms equipped with talons at the extremities, swung mechanically, and soon were waved frantically at the suffering audience. Their mouths opened like caverns, and sounds like the wailing of damned souls issued therefrom.”

This last vicious appraisal was reprinted in the Des Moines Leader and the Cherry Sisters, who had exhibited litigiousness over the years, sued both newspapers for defamation. In a landmark case, the Iowa Supreme Court eventually ruled in favor of a newspaper’s right to freely criticize public performances.

That’s pretty selfish and presumptuous...expecting others to boycott something just because *you* were insulted.

No wait a minute.

If he was at the school at the time of the shooting, then why did he say what he said about it being another school shooting?

“On the day of the shooting, I got my camera and got on my bike and rode as fast as I could three miles from my house to the school to get as much video and to get as many interviews as I could because I knew that this could not be another mass shooting.”

So, IF he was at the school, how did he not know about the shooting at the time?
