First, he’s a white kid. Second, he’s not a California resident. Third, I looked at his SAT and it’s what you’d term average.
His Florida school might still go and claim he’s a ‘A’ average student...I think it’s mostly because they’ve weakened the teaching process enough that the SAT score corrects the value of his education.
I’ll point out one curious thing left out of this story. He’s a Florida resident. If they had accepted him....his yearly tuition with books, meals and dorm...as a out-of-state resident would be near $63,000 a year (UCLA numbers). In-state costs would be $34,000 a year. So, to get a four-year degree....he’d have to come up with $270,000 plus if they had picked him.
Go talk to the majority of kids in Florida and suggest the $270,000 price tag for college. Unless they play basketball or get some scholarship pretending to be an Indonesian citizen...I don’t see them going too far.
He’s counting on leftist “community activists” to bankroll him.
Keeps a good portion of the sport excellence at home.
Hogg already boasted in one interview about blowing off an exam this month because he didn’t feel like it.
Senior slump is going to hit him hard.
All excellent (and accurate!) points.
Not just white but a white male. His chances, even as a far leftest, can’t be very high, although his notoriety might help.
Maybe his activism is all about getting into a CA school.
Well done doing the research. The Free Republic at it’s finest.
Being white didn't hurt him in the way people think. California rejected affirmative action back in the Nineties. Asians are the largest group in the UCal system.
Second, hes not a California resident.
He's spent time in Cali. Couldn't he figure out a way to work around the residence requirements if he were smart enough? Maybe move to the state and take a year off between high school and college.
