"Ostracize" can just mean to ignore or exclude.
It doesn't necessarily mean they actively bullied him.

I'm no fan of Gonzales, but she didn't admit to "bullying" Cruz, only "ostracizing" him, i.e., avoiding him, which is probably what most of us would have done - and instructed our children to do - if we perceived Cruz to be a dangerous, unstable weirdo.

She seems like a real POS.
I would make a distinction between “ostracism” (which she admits to) and “bullying” (which is not what she admits to).... but still, if you acknowledge that you and your friends “ostracized” the guy for years (”since middle school”) then surely you may have helped him to end up as he did. Still, kids will always choose their own friends, but they should be discouraged (strongly) from making life any more difficult for other kids. You can be cordial or at least polite to people you don’t wish to be friends with.....
