Yes, and this move doesn’t make sense to anyone who thought his tariffs were an attempt at starting a trade war, or increasing US revenue, or a move to isolationism, or any of the other motives so many anti-Trumps have written about.
But, to anyone who thought the tariffs where part of a larger negotiation strategy, this makes perfect sense. The threat is real. Like Raegan having physical nukes in silos rather than a chalkboard full of engineering diagrams and 2 examples from the 1940s to tell the USSR that we’re serious about retaliating to an attack.
