Thanks blueplum. The fentanyl used as a booster in very overcut heroin is counterfeited in illegal labs in the US and Mexico, rather than being stolen from legit manufacturers in the US. It's popular among the crooks because it is potent in micrograms. The problem of course is that it isn't generally evenly mixed into the heroin (plus the baby laxative and whatnot used to cut the heroin) making overdose a more common problem.
Naloxone, which has been around since the late 1960s I think, is now legal in Michigan, so legal in fact that it isn't even illegal to administer it without some kind of license (nursing for example) or to someone who doesn't have an Rx for it. The kits are available free or for modest cost without an Rx, and easy to use. There's also a newer format (I've seen it but I'm drawing a blank as to details, apologies; I've not seen it demo'd per se) that is more convenient to use and a bit more robust to lug around (for people in that devil-may-care addict lifestyle) but costs over $100 for the time being.
Trump is right about people like this.
Make em eat it all!
Oh, I forgot...
1. Food Stamps
2. Aid to family with dependent children
3. Section 8 housing
4. Refunds to people who DON'T pay taxes
5. Generous welfare payments.
There are 1000 mcg in 1 mg.
Intravenous Fentanyl is often dispensed as 100 mcg suspended in 1ml of liquid. 100 mcg is 1/10 of a milligram. a small snowflake weighs approximately 1 mg so 100 mcg of fentanyl weighs 1/10 the weight of a small snowflake.
Most docs don't order 100 mcg though. They usually start out with 25-50 mcg. So a standard starting dose of fentanyl is 50mcg.
There are 1.5 billion mcg of fentanyl in 1.5 kg.
1.5kg of pure fentanyl is, therefore, equivalent to 30 million 50 mcg doses.
Fentanyl, like all narcotics, is potentially lethal. The lethal dose will vary according to the individual's weight and experience with narcotics. It kills by slowing down your respiration rate (called respiratory depression) a normal person needs to breathe about 12 times a minute. Narcotics may reduce that to 6 respirations per minute (or less) which is only compatible with life for a few minutes. You need to take oxygen in and you need to exhale carbon dioxide. If you can't do that, you suffocate and die or suffer irreversible brain and/or cardiac damage. If I had to pick a dose that could be expected to kill a 180 lb person who had zero experience with narcotics (called narcotic naive), I would say that 1,000 mcg (or 1mg which is the weight of a small snowflake) of intravenous fentanyl would be guaranteed to be lethal 75 out of 100 times. There is no doubt that 1,500 mcg of fentanyl administered via a rapid IV push, would be lethal 100 out of 100 times in just about anybody.
So, 1.5 kg of fentanyl is equivalent to 1,000,000 guaranteed lethal doses. It is, in other words, enough fentanyl to kill 1,000,000 people.
1 million people.
personal stash?
Speaking of OH, are the Pike County mass murderers and the Colerain Twnshp shooter still on the loose...?
I agree with Trump......these are the kind that need to be hung in the public square!
these are the same kind of drug dealers 0bama was busily trying to release back out on the streets, because their crimes were “non-violent.” 0bama should be arrested, tried and sentenced right along with them.
...And they should never have been out roaming the streets!...HANG THEM!
I do charity work with the homeless in my city. Many of them are heroin addicts. Fentanyl is definitely being mixed with the heroin and other drugs and killing people. One woman with whom I was working had two young kids — 3 and 7. She died from snorting heroin with fentanyl. She knew that fentanyl was being put in the drugs that she was buying and she knew that it could kill her. But she kept doing it and it eventually got her. So I won’t call her death and the deaths of the other addicts who use these drugs “tragedies” — they know what they are getting into. But its tough seeing the aftermath and wreckage that it leaves on the families and especially the kids.
