Creepy having a caged animal statue anyway...
Kids have always loved zoos.
It's as simple as this:
They wanted to give the kids something they would think is cool.
So they gave them a cage to climb on rather than just another geodesic monkey bar set. They put a gorilla in it because kids are afraid of gorillas, but this one’s not real, and it is fun to climb on it and know he's not going to grab you.
The fact that SOME people see it as a caged black MAN is what is creepy.
There's no way, I'm strongly saying, that the folks who came up with the idea in the first place were thinking:
“We'll show them inferior n words what we think of them! Should be in cages!”
Never. To imply they were is RACIST.
I’m with you I can’t figure out its funny or creepy. I bet little kids love it though - they like things like dinosaurs and monsters at least the boys or they used to.
