When I was 14, my Dad bought a WWII vintage M1 Carbine and a 15 and a 30 round magazine for me. He also gave me $5.00 to go down to the Army surplus store to buy 200 rounds of surplus Lake City ammunition in a couple of bandoleers so we could take it to the range.
He was issued the same type of rifle in WWII. I still have that rifle made by IBM in 1943.
So far, it hasn’t jumped out of storage and killed or hurt anyone.
Woo-oo-oo! That M-1 Carbine might be worth a couple thou on the market. But an incalculable amount, when it’s yours, with memories. That was my first assigned arm as an ammo truck driver for the Service Battery of a 105mm Armored Artillery Battalion. I still have my Expert qualification badge for the M-1 Carbine, as well as for the M-1 Rifle.
