5:10 a.m. update: The suspect in a string of bombings in Austin is dead, interim Austin Police Chief Brian Manley confirmed early Wednesday.
Investigators identified several leads but the case really broke in the past 24 to 36 hours, Manley said.
The chief described how authorities tracked down the suspects vehicle to a Round Rock-area hotel. Police began following the suspects vehicle, and as SWAT approached, the suspect detonated a bomb in the car, Manley said.
The name of the suspect, described only as a 24-year-old white man, has not been released, pending notification of his family, Manley said.
Although police are still investigating the possibility of accomplices, he said, we believe this individual is responsible for all of the incidents in Austin.
Manley urged the community to remain vigilant for possible other explosives, adding that we do not know where (the suspect) has been in the past 24 hours.
Police have not identified a motive for the string of bombings, Manley said.
Earlier: A man whom authorities were attempting to arrest early Wednesday in a string of bombing attacks in Austin killed himself with an explosive device as authorities closed in, a high-ranking law enforcement official told the American-Statesman.
The official said authorities identified a suspect in the past 24 hours based largely on information gained after police said the suspect shipped an explosive device from a FedEx store in Sunset Valley, a suburb surrounded by Austin. That evidence included security video.
Authorities also relied upon store receipts showing suspicious transactions from the person and obtained a search warrant for his Google search history that showed him conducting searches they considered suspicious, the official said.
Authorities relied upon cell phone technology to trace the suspect to a hotel in Williamson County, the official said.

Police are not releasing the Fed-x tapes because it is not of a 24y/o white guy? Conspiracy crowd is going to have a field day with that.
Let me guess:
A Sarah Palin-loving member of the tea party, right..?

It’ll turn out to be an antifa follower of David Hogg or some other kind of leftist. Just watch.
Can the residents of Austin now claim to be “survivors?”
Great! Good riddance.

Cole White?
Does anyone really believe the police would disclose the real method they used to identify him..?
come on!
they probably just asked Zuckerberg.
Several security cam pics.
He is wearing gloves and what looks like a bit of a disguise.
MAYBE if he was working or involved with someone else, they want to keep as much away from the ‘lauded’ media until they are sure.
When it was being reported last night that no video was taken at the FedEx locations, I immediately thought that was misdirection.
In a discussion with a group at the office yesterday, they brought up ISIS or other ME terror. I said nope, let history work itself a little and think Unibomber, SDS or the Weather Underground.
Saul and I exchanged this on a twitter discussion early last evening.
They’re going to have a two-week gangbang where they will obsess overhis whiteness and his being a right winger Christian:
Then 6 months or a year later we’ll find out he’s a total lefty.
Just like Loughner, the Arizona Kook who shot the congresswoman.
A warrant? Couldn't they just get it from Obama?

Who will leftists blame? Will we hear cries of bomb control?
Dead suspect. Convenient. I’m inclined to believe exactly the same amount of the official story on this as on the Las Vegas shooting.
Good.
If the perp is white, they report his color.
AND he voted for Donald Trump.
The over / under that the d-bag was a Bernie Sanders supporter is 99.9%
