Here in my city, I encounter on a daily basis graduates of Florida A&M University, an HBCU. I’ve been less than impressed with the abilities of 95% of these folks, they write and speak at about an 8th grade level.

Wow, they speak at 8th grade level? That’s really good for them, I rarely hear anything above 4th grade where I am.

I gave directions to a prospective room mate on how to get to my house so we could meet. He had a BA and MS in Civil Engineeering. He said he was at that moment at the Student Center on University Street. So I said:
Go straight South from the University on University Street to 1106 S University which is 4 blocks due South of the University. I waited and waited. A couple hours later he called. He was still looking for my place. He had driven to a University Avenue that ran East and West in another town.
That Civil Engineer with a Masters Degree is now designing bridges.
