Well, as a rule better Red than Mohamed in the Middle East.
They are a minority of 12% in the region with their back to the wall who just lost at least 70.000 people.
They certainly do not want to be engaged as Iranian proxies in a war against Israel nor fighting the Kurds for Iran or Turkey. They might have concerns as a minority of losing power in Syria, however they are tired of fighting, there is no denying it. In fact some of them protested Assad and this is why Assad initially abandoned them to the Suni islamist majority.
My take is that as much as Kurds are vulnerable to Marxist Leninist never ending warmongering, as a people they do not want that. I think Kurds can be pacified as leftists much like hyppies were - before the like of Alinsky eliminated them in favor of psychopaths like Hillary or Obama dragging kids out of school for political action.
The proper course is short of converting a leftist to free market, it is to find at least a way to pacify them. The same goes for islam which could see us benefit more realistically from a reformation of an islam tolerating other religions as is seen in some Shia circles in Lebannon which have rejected Hezbollah in favor of alliances with Christians.
Ironically it is Lebanese Christian general Aoun who was instrumental in destroying this alliance by forging an alliance between his Maronite followers and Hezbollah. He also is fhe one who unilaterally declared war in the 80s on Syria and then fled as his officers were taken prisoner and tortured by Assad. It was a trap, notwithstanding his eliminating the Israeli no fly zone by declaring sympathies with the Palestians in another proxy front for Iran against Israel. That no fly zone lifted, Assad bombed Christian villages.
There is no question Iran is running the show in Syria and Alawites do not want to be exhausted in their war.
Assad is a puppet of Iran. He has no standing in a peaceful Syria. His only props is selling out his people as Iranian canon fodder while he gets support for Iran to keep him in power. He also prefers to forge an alliance of war with Hezbollah in Lebanon to control Lebanon while in exchange Hezbollah are his sort of contracted protection in Syria fighting for him there, or, even, if possible, Americans in Iraq or Israel itself.
Note that Saddam and Assad fought for control of Lebanon, with Saddam behind Palestianians and Assad behind Hezbollah fighting each other. A lot of people are being wasted by these dictators in their own quest for power.
