But you must admit that 1960 World Series bit New York in the butt. The Yankees scored 55 runs and the Pirates only 27. Whitey Ford threw that spitter well and you guys were nearly an ALL STAR team...... but you lost. Bummer.
If Casey had started Whitey in Game 1 he could have pitched him three times in the Series, and things most likely would have been different.
I was 13 years old during that Series and sat in the second deck of the right field bleachers at old Forbes Field at Game 2.
I saw MICKEY MANTLE SMASH A HOMERUN INTO THE PARK BEHIND THE WALL TO THE OPPOSITE FIELD(MICKEY WAS HITTING RIGHT HANDED) AND THE BALL FLEW PAST US, AND WE WERE ABOUT 70 FEET OFF THE GROND. I'll bet that ball went over 550 feet before it landed. ---- an opposite field homerun!!!!
The Pirates lost 16-3 that day............. UGH!
