The elite sniper shot dead the terrorist chief with what senior defence sources said was a shot achieved at a range of more than 1,500m with a window of opportunity of just 15 seconds.

Military insiders said the sniper was using a US-made McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle, which fires a huge .50 calibre round......

Does anyone know what ammunition the shooter was using? The last Canadian sniper that set a record in distance was using American ammunition because Canadian loads wouldn’t carry the distance accurately enough.

No. The exit wound is where the external damage is done. Kennedy's exit wound was on the top right of his skull. His head was down at the time of impact; the entry wound was in the back of the skull. See the diagram in the wikipedia article.
